Code of ConductÂ
Competitive rivalry is positive within sport encouraging participants to do their best and creating friendly rivalry. We want to ensure that this rivalry is of good nature and in the spirit of celebrating our communities of sport. All players and spectators of Varsity must adhere to the following Code of Conduct
- Your behaviour at a fixture is representing your institution be that as a player or spectator. You should behave in a manner befitting this before, during and after the Varsity events.
- Spectators are there to watch and support the game from the side lines.
- Never argue with an official. Accept the decisions of all referees as being fair and called to the best of their ability.
- Respect your team’s opponents, officials, staff and spectators
- Assume the opposition is not trying to gain an unfair competitive edge.
- Always be positive in your support of all players and officials.
- Encourage player behaviour by not using offensive language or harassing players, coaches or officials. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated.
- Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided. Do not cause damage, steal or intentionally misuse any property or equipment.
- Do not provoke, incite, or undertake any form of violence or criminal activity.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and welcome. Be actively inclusive of participation. Sport is for everyone and no one should be stopped from participating.
- All forms of discrimination and intimidation are unacceptable no matter what platform or space. No one should be discriminated against due to their gender, appearance, sexuality, ability, cultural background or religion.
- Always carry you Student ID on you, and if a member of staff asks to see it that it is presented upon request.
What happens if this code is breached?
- You will be removed from the event immediately.
- You will not be allowed to attend any further Varsity events.
- You will be referred to your Students’ Unions / institutions disciplinary proceeding and may result in sanctions being placed against you and/or the club, including expulsion from the Union and the cessation of any rights of membership thereof.
- You may also be referred to your University’s disciplinary procedures. The University may charge you with a breach of its code of conduct which may result in sanctions being placed against you, including expulsion from University.
We reserve the right to amend or implement new regulations throughout the Varsity programme and for different fixtures. We reserve the right to cancel fixtures and or the whole competition at any point if it is deemed that the issues are significant.Â
